notags (1)

notags (1)

NAME

notags - search for files and directories that need metapho-style tagging

SYNOPSIS

notags

DESCRIPTION

Change directory to the root of an image directory, then run notags with no arguments.

It will search recursively for files named Tags (or the older, deprecated Keywords), and will report whether there are any untagged files, any directories containing taggable files but no Tags file, or files referenced in a Tags file that no longer exist on disk.

You can then use metapho to tag anything that needs it.

SKIPPED FILES AND DIRECTORIES

notags will skip files with the following extensions:

cr2, arw, xcf, mvi, avi, mov, thm, pto, txt, wav, mp3

You can configure that by setting the environment variable “NOTAGS_SKIP_EXTENSIONS”, space-separated, e.g. ` export NOTAGS_SKIP_EXTENSIONS='.cr2 .mp3' `

Use an empty string to skip nothing: ` export NOTAGS_SKIP_EXTENSIONS='' `

It will also skip directories named “web” and directories with the same name as the parent directory (e.g. yosemite/yosemite). The assumption is that these are probably scaled or edited copies of images in the parent directory, intended for sharing. You can configure that with the environment variable NOTAGS_IGNORE_DIRNAMES, e.g. ` export NOTAGS_IGNORE_DIRNAMES='bad good ignored' `

Finally, it will ignore any directory (and its subdirectories) containing a file named NoTags.
